General information in English
Welcome to the website of the Tilburg student korfball association Melmac. Some general information about Melmac for foreign students is given here. Probably, you are not familiar with the sport korfball and you think that it is something like basketball but a little different. Some typical aspects of korfball are the mixed teams (guys and girls mixed), the basket without a board behind it and the fact that you are not allowed to dribble or walk with the ball in your hand. There are many other typical aspects (like defending a person prohibits that person from scoring a goal), but those aspects can be better learned in practice. If you got interested, see below for more information about Melmac.
Melmac is a korfball association for everyone studying in Tilburg and gives you the opportunity to participate in korfball trainings and matches. So, students from the Tilburg University as well as students from Fontys & Avans college can participate. The trainings take place on Monday and Wednesday from 19.30h – 21.00h on the field near the Sportcenter. At this moment, Melmac has two teams playing in different competitions. One team plays its matches in the weekend on Saturday, while the other team has its matches on Tuesday.
Besides the trainings and matches, Melmac also participates in tournaments organized by other student korfball associations through the whole country. These tournaments can be considered as weekends with parties, a little sleep, korfball of course and a lot of fun! Our own tournament, called the Alf Trophy, takes place in the second weekend of October.
At our association, a lot of emphasis is placed on activities and fun outside the korfball field. Therefore, many activities are organized through the year, like parties, nights-out at the café with our own free beer pump, a bbq, a cycling dinner, a weekend out, skiing, beer games a lot of other things which have nothing to do with korfball, but actually are real fun!
